Open House impressions

To thank the population for supporting the renovated and extended buildings, the University invited the general public to an Open Day on Saturday, 17 September 2011. Under the motto “We all are the HSG”, it offered a many-faceted programme from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

In the morning the State Secretary for Education and Research, Mauro Dell’Ambrogio, Cantonal Minister Stefan Kölliker, President Thomas Bieger, Peter Spenger, Chairman of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Wicor CEO Franziska Tschudi and Hanspeter Trüsch, Federal Palace Editor of Swiss Radio and Television, debated the topic of “The HSG as a place of reflection – St.Gallen lace or merely old rags?” in the Aula.

Hundreds of visitors were able to get the feeling of being a “student for a day” by attending one of five taster lectures or having a discussion with professors and their guests within the framework of “A cup of coffee with…”.

For children, there was a Children’s University on the topic of “What is a computer?”, and later in the afternoon, HSG students took part in a fictitious court proceeding. Guided tours of the buildings and of the art works they contain were conducted throughout the day.

For the time from 7 p.m. onwards, the HSG had organised a free concert of the folk rockers of 77 Bombay Street and the St.Gallen band Monophon in the park of the Burggraben Cantonal School.

An audio-visual review of the inauguration festivities is provided by our video coverage of the Open Day and by a TVO production. You can find more information on our special pages about “Inauguration 2011”.
